MORRIS W. YOUNT

SARCOXIE-Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar for Morris W. Yount, 91, Sarcoxie, who died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin. Minister Jim Poland of the Church of Christ in Carthage officiated. Burial, with full military honors, was in Paradise Cemetery, in Jasper County.

Music was congregational hymns, with pallbearers being Curtis Feather, Dusty Feather, Denver Feather and friends from the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two brothers, Dale Yount and Bill Yount, both of Fremont, Neb.; two sisters, Mina Williams, Fremont, Neb. and Bonnie Rea, Webb City, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Rollo, Walter, Jerry and Dean Yount and three sisters, Cleo Tiller, Mary Plymate and Georgia Steele.

Mr. Yount was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Liberal, to James Elmer and Sarah Dialpha (Berry) Yount. He served in the Army during World War II and Korea. He retired from the Army in 1967, having achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He was wounded several times and received a Purple Heart. He spent 31 months as a P.O.W. during his duty in Korea.

Mr. Yount taught ROTC, did landscaping and retired a second time from the ministry. He was a Christian and served as a member of the Church of Christ in Carthage.

He married Maxine Harper on April 10, 1946. She preceded him in death.
