SHELDON-Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sheldon Cemetery for Gerald E. “Jerry” Cooper, 87, Sheldon, who died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Veteran’s Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
He married Juanita Upton and born to this union were three children; one son, Jim and Teresa Cooper, Lamar; two daughters, Terry and Doug Elrod, Pittsburg, Kan., and Billie and Shawn, Joplin; a sister, June Kessee, Topeka, Kan.; four grandchildren, Lacey, Gerry, Josh and Jordan, and six great-grandchildren, Elise, Zach, Trevor, Alexandra, Kelsey and Addie.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Cooper and Truman Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Joplin, to Vincil and Sylvia (Schaffer) Cooper. He was a graduate of Sheldon High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II and had worked for Lawn-Boy Manufacturing in Lamar and the City of Sheldon.
