ATCHISON, Kan.-A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the United Methodist Church in Atchison for Ellabeth (Diggs) Stillings, 96, Atchison, who died Monday, June 3, 2013, at Atchison Senior Village. Rev. Cynthia Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cummings Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Atchison United Methodist Church or Atchison Senior Village, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Jr. and wife Ann, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. and Todd and wife Kelley, Atchison; a daughter, Ann, St. Joseph, Mo.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Stillings was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Lamar, Mo., to William T. and Bessye (McCart) Diggs. She attended primary school in a one-room schoolhouse in Oakton, Mo. and graduated from high school in Lamar, Mo. She then graduated from Pittsburg State University, formerly Kansas State Teachers College. After teaching for two years at Mound City High School in Mound City, she returned to Pittsburg State. She had been selected by the college to receive a fellowship in the English Department teaching Freshman Rhetoric while she completed her Master’s Degree. She then accepted a position at Atchison County Community High School in Effingham, teaching English and Latin until 1947.
She moved to Atchison in August 1948 and began teaching at Atchison High School until 1950. She discontinued her teaching with the exception of substituting from 1950 to 1966. From 1952 and until 1966 she was the bookkeeper for Stillings Hardware, Feed and Seed Company, a business she and her husband owned. In 1966 she sold the hardware store and returned to teaching English at Atchison High School until her retirement in 1982.
She was a member and trustee of the Atchison United Methodist Church, a member of the Methodist Eves, a lifetime member of the Social Order of the Beauceant, a 50 year member of Chapter J PEO, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Kansas Retired Teachers Association, the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary and the Atchison Shepherd’s Center of Atchison.
She married Robert M. Stillings, Sr. on March 28, 1943. He died June 22, 1963.
