MOUNDVILLE- Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada for Josephine Marie Rives, 81, Moundville, who died at her home in Moundville on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, following a brief illness. Rev. Dennis Painter will officiate. Burial will be in Iantha Cemetery in Barton County.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada Hospice, in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Survivors include her husband, James Rives, of the home; a daughter, Barbara E. Watkins and husband Stan, Moundville; two sons, James Charles Rives, Jr., Lamar and Robert Alan Rives, Sr., Burdett, Kan.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Susan Jamison and husband Flem, Salina, Kan.; a brother, Richard Snider and wife Jessie, Salina, Kan. and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters; two granddaughters, Wendy Carter and Tammy Fry; a great-great-granddaughter, Reagan Merriman; a daughter, Elizabeth M. Carter, and a son, Clark D. Rives.
Mrs. Rives was born Dec. 17, 1931, in Offerle, Kan., to Nicholas and Barbara (Stegman) Snider. She was reared in Kansas and lived in various locales including California from 1961 to 1968, Mulberry, Kan. and Lamar for a number of years, and had made her home in Moundville for the past 29 years. She worked for Chastain’s Nursing Home in Lamar, the Larned Kansas State Hospital and the Nevada State Hospital until her retirement in 1989. She also helped her husband Jim with Rives Landscaping for many years.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She married James C. Rives on June 12, 1950, in Kinsley, Kan.
