GOLDEN CITY-Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Golden City for Richard “Leon” Bishop, 80, Golden City, who died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his home. Pastor David Powell officiated. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Brad Beerly, Telly Beerly, Bryan Bishop, Mike Bishop, Jared Neil and Michael McCullum. Honorary pallbearers were Norman and Melvin Parker, Carl Glen Stansberry, Robert Elliott, Truman Glenn, Larry Divine and Mark Whittle.
Music was provided by Joanne Howard, soloist, and Claude Howard, organist.
Arrangements were under the direction of Pugh Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to C.A.R.E. (Castaway Animal Rescue Effort), in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Bishop; a son, Neil Bishop and wife Cindy, Billings; two daughters, Betty Beerly and husband Gaylon, Golden City, and Jenny McCullum and husband Gene, Springfield; a brother, LeeRoy Bishop, state of Florida; nine grandchildren, Brad and Sara Beerly, Telly Beerly, Mike and Stephanie Bishop, Bryan Bishop, Genie and Vince Ceparano, Jared Neil, Michael McCullum, Jasmine McCullum and Christy Maxwell; 14 great-grandchildren and nieces, Lisa Grubaugh, Barbara Heill and Sue Rossell.
Mr. Bishop was born March 20, 1933, in Carthage, to Carl Leopal and Macie H. (Childers) Bishop. He was a lifetime Golden City area resident and a graduate of Golden City High School. He was a farmer and truck driver for the Springfield-Lamar Express Route until retiring in 1998.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Golden City.
He married Peggy Frances Duncan on March 13, 1952, at Bentonville, Ark.
