EL DORADO SPRINGS-Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs for Leora Gill VanBummel, 82, El Dorado Springs, who died Sunday, July 14, 2013. Rev. Brent Bland will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Pallbearers ae Glen William VanBummel, Ryan Pierce, Steven Probert, Randy Merryman, David Rice, John Corker, Erik Pierce and Camden Burns. Honorary pallbearers are Douglas Probert, Charles Rice, Dennis Rice, Sam Corker, Mike Potter, Grant Merryman, Will Merryman, Kellen Merryman, Matthew Burns and Gus Pierce.
Music will be “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross”, with Rusty Carver, soloist and Rita Farris, pianist.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of El Dorado Springs or the El Dorado Springs FFA Greenhouse.
Survivors include two daughters, Claudia Hardison and husband Gary, and Kathy Pierce and husband Gordon; a son, Richard VanBummel and wife Glenda; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Arletta Probert; a sister-in-law, Delores Corker; a brother-in-law, Carl Sikes and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother and a great-grandson.
Mrs. VanBummel was born Nov. 12, 1930, to Clarence and Hattie Murphey. She grew up in Iantha and was a 1949 graduate of Liberal High School. She moved with her husband and their family to El Dorado Springs in 1957, when they were given the opportunity to build and operate a new location for Community Lumber Company. Mrs. VanBummel was instrumental in the operation of the business and was a bookkeeper for the operation. In addition to her lumberyard duties, she and her husband built and managed The Bee’s Restaurant from 1965-1968. She worked for Community Lumber Company until her retirement in 2007.
She married Glen VanBummel on July 2, 1949, in Iantha. He preceded her in death after 60 years of marriage.
