LAMAR-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Daniel Funeral Home for Verneta “Vern” Alice O’Brien, 85, Lamar, who died Sunday evening, July 28, 2013, at her home. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband, Bill O’Brien, of the home; two sons, Bill O’Brien Jr. and wife Karen, and Charles Mattox, all of Lamar; two sisters, Darlene Gaeode and husband Butch, and Dora Mae, all of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Vernelle Kay McPheater, Linda Gayle Bundy and Jeannine Lois Workman.
Mrs. O’Brien was born Oct. 28, 1927, at La Crosse, Wisc., to Antone and Edna Johnson. She was a member of Bethel Foursquare Church in St. Joseph. She had worked at Mead-Western Tablet in St. Joseph and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lamar Eagles Auxiliary.
She married William “Bill” Robert O’Brien Sr. on April 10, 1954, at Hiawatha, Kan.
