GOLDEN CITY-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Golden City United Methodist Church for Judy M. (Marilyn Jewell Morton) Probert, 84, Golden City, who died at 10:05 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Medicalodges Neosho. Rev. Larry Garfield will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Sam Embrey, Grant Probert, Alex Probert, Doug Heslep, John Briggs and Kenney Briggs.
Music will be provided by Ryland Walter, soloist, and Dorris Garfield, organist.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pugh Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Club or United Methodist Church of Golden City, in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include her five children, Lacy Heslep and husband Joe, Marietta, Ga., Becky Briggs and husband Alan, Neosho, Julie Embrey and husband Jim, Tulsa, Okla., Buddy Probert and his late wife Judy Jordan, Lamar, and David Probert and wife Nikki, Belton; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Other family members, friends and neighbors will fondly remember this caring and loving woman.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Triplett.
Mrs. Probert was born June 27, 1929, to Dr. John “Doc” Lacy and Aileen Mae (Jewell) Morton. She was a lifelong resident of Golden City. She was a member of the Golden City United Methodist Church, Lions Club, Culture Club and the United Methodist Women. She founded the Golden Girls, a twirling group of girls age kindergarten through high school.
She enjoyed quilting and interviewing people for her job with the Lamar Democrat. Judy contributed the “Cook of the Month’ column, which allowed her to interview the cooks in their homes and then present their recipes through the month. She also had the “Golden Nuggets” column and the Devotional thoughts for the newspaper. She reported for the newspaper for many years.
She married Kenneth Warren Probert on March 14, 1948, in Weslaco, Texas. He preceded her in death in 2005.
