JASPER-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Golden City for Barbara Anne Sweeney, 77, Jasper, who died at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at her rural home. Rev. Robert Atwell and Rev. Larry Garfield will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pugh Funeral Home, Golden City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Educational Fund Board – Order of the Eastern Star, in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence Sweeney, of the home; four children, Mark Sweeney and wife Karen, Roseville, Calif., Tina Felkner and husband Skip, Lamar, Jeff Sweeney and fiancée Barbara Bradley, Carthage and Nancy Thomas, Jasper; four sisters, Margie Hay, Denver, Colo., Betty Wester, Billings, Montana, Janet Tubaugh, Golden City and Rita Johnson and husband Bill, Carthage; eight grandchildren, Rosanna Jordan, Melissa Felkner, Jennifer Doerr, Crystal Felkner, Kristina Nuse, Pamela Austin, Joey Thomas and Kelly Thomas; great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Miranda Doerr, Christopher and Taddeo Nuse and Zoey Austin, and her step-great-grandchildren, Chris and Wes Doerr.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Banta, and three sisters, Hazel Wyrick, Freda Tulp and Joyce Tubaugh.
Mrs. Sweeney was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Billings, Montana, to William Newton and Mabel (Roy) Banta. She spent her early life living in Billings, Montana and Golden City. She belonged to the Stone Club, United Methodist Women, the Order of the Eastern Star – Mt. Hope No. 74 in Lamar and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Golden City. She was also instrumental in the Jasper Boy and Girl Scout troops when her children participated.
She married Clarence Gerald Sweeney on July 3, 1957, in Miller.
