LAMAR-A graveside service was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Greenfield Cemetery near Jerico Springs for Lavonna Schubert, 83, Lamar, who died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. Pastor Jack Slade officiated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest Schubert, of the home; three children, Dennis Layne Schubert and wife Kathy M., Columbia, Shari Lynn Schubert, Columbia, and G.G. Mathis and husband David, Duenweg; grandchildren, Wade Mathis, Duenweg, James Luke Schubert, Columbia and John Jacob Schubert, Denver, Colo.; a brother, Richard Jenkins, Branson, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Schubert was born July 13, 1930, in Golden City, to Walter W. and Lola Velege (Cross) Jenkins. She and her family resided in rural Barton County, where she attended and graduated from Lamar High School. She then worked for Lamar Schools as a secretary for the Vocational Agricultural and Veterans Training Departments. She taught her children to read at an early age and when they entered school they could already read at a third grade level.
She was a long-time member of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Lamar, where she was active in women’s mission work, especially using her skills as a seamstress and quilter to make needed items for children locally and in Honduras.
She married Ernest Henry Schubert, Jr. on August 1, 1949, in Lamar.
