LAMAR-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Cornerstone Baptist Church for Martha “Joan” Reed, 79, Lamar, who died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014. Minister Jack Slade will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the church from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Monday.
Pallbearers are Laramie Todd, Adam Neher, John Bufford, George Bufford, Andrew Reed, Nathan Reed, Derek Reed and Kyle O’Brien. Music and vocals were by Douglas Gripka.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Michael O’Brien and wife Michelle, Eldorado, Kan., and Philip Reed, Kansas City; five daughters, Jolene Bufford, Fairview, Beth Reed, Lamar, Amy Driskell and husband Bill, Reeds, Donna Fritzwater, Columbus, Kan., and Megan Neher and husband Lynn, Jasper; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a sister, Donna Reed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; two grandchildren, Stefanie Blair Reed and Austin Reed, and a brother, Roger Schell.
Mrs. Reed was born July 19, 1934, in Jasper, to Floyd and Alice (Parker) Schell. She had held several jobs and after graduating high school she worked at the Carthage Five and Dime. She married John Reed at her parent’s home in Jasper. They farmed in Iantha and she was self-employed in the pet industry involving running of kennels and sales and transportation. In addition to have their own children, they opened their home to foster children.
