LAMAR-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home for Rita Lee Embry, 79, Lamar, who died Monday, March 17, 2014, at her daughter’s home, following a lengthy illness. Ministers Rob Wilson, Justin Braker and Mike Gage will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens.
Music will be “Nannan” with Jesse and Hope Sheldon, vocals; “I Can Only Imagine”, “On The Wings Of A Dove” and One Day At A Time”, with Mike Gage and Andrea Braker, vocals, and Jacque Gage and Becky Payne, pianists. Pallbearers are Jimmy Ballard, Jones Braker, Wes Budd, Paul Laemmli, Cade Payne, Judd Payne, Danny Sheldon, Jesse Embry Sheldon and Micah Sheldon. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Gilkey, John Gilkey, Tom Reed, Tom York, Dan Embry, Don Lucietta and Ron Tucker.

Survivors include a son, Luther John Embry, Ft. Scott, Kan.; a daughter, Barbara Lee Embry, Lamar; a brother, Guy Shanklin, Grand Junction, Colo.; grandchildren, Becky Payne, Lamar, Justin Braker, Newton, Kan., Amanda Shelton, Mexico, Mo., Cassie Laemmli, Jefferson City, Dr. Erica Embry-Ballard, Columbia and Alexa Metcalf, Ft. Scott, Kan.; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and her lifetime friend, Nell Finley-Voorhees.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and one son, Gary Wayne Embry, who died in 1986.
Mrs. Embry was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to David “Dump” and Alice (Sewell) Shanklin. She was a homemaker as well as a waitress at the Blue Top Cafe for several years and was administrator of the Harry S Truman Birthplace until her retirement. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lamar.
She married Perry John Embry on Feb. 2, 1950. He preceded her in death in 2012.
