SOUTH GREENFIELD-A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City, for Helen N. Dirksen, 88, South Greenfield, who died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Dade County Nursing Home. Pastor Scott Houston will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.


Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.


Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include three sons, Eddie and wife Debbie Wood, Granbury, Texas, Bob Wood, Miller and Jim and Cheryl Wood, Golden City; two daughters and their husbands, Joyce and Larry Boyd, Greenfield and Jean and Jerry Obert, South Greenfield; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was looking forward to her fifth great-great-grandbaby to the family this May.


He was preceded in death by all 12 of her brothers and sisters.


Mrs. Dirksen was born March 16, 1925, at Mountainburg, Ark., to Oliver and Minnie Bell (Sexton) Coleman.


On March 16, 1988, at Chapel, Okla., she married Melvin L. Dirksen and they farmed in Barton County all their married life. After Melvin’s death in 2011, Mrs. Dirksen moved from Golden City to South Greenfield. She had been an active member of Grace Baptist Church, Golden City Lion’s Club and VFW Auxiliary.
