CARL JUNCTION-A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Carl Junction Christian Church for Garry Dean McDaniel, 70, Carl Junction, who died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at his home, following a lengthy illness. Rev. Garry Joe Carter will officiate. His ashes will be interred in the Carl Junction Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the church
Cremation was under the direction of Midland Cremation Society in Joplin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Carl Junction Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife, Doris McDaniel, of the home; three sons, Michael McDaniel and wife Karla, Neosho and Bradley McDaniel and Christopher McDaniel and wife Shannon, Carl Junction; a brother, Larry McDaniel, Lamar; 10 grandchildren, Adam Clinton and Amanda Lee, Crocket, Texas, Matthew, Jared and Houston McDaniel, Danielle Scott, Cole and Kinnzley McDaniel and Elli Parsons and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kerry Rae Dowdy; a grandson; a sister, Rosella Pichard and a brother, Gene McDaniel.
Mr. McDaniel was born Oct. 22, 1943, in Mindenmines, to Ora and Pearl (Edwards) McDaniel. He was a retired industrial engineer and owner of CIS Inventory Services. He grew up and attended schools in Mindenmines. He spent most of his adult life living in Carl Junction.
He loved all kinds of sports, but basketball was his passion. He restored a 1966 Impala, that was a labor of love. He enjoyed many hours of entertainment at the Carl Junction Senior Center.
He married Doris Wood on Sept. 11, 1962.
