LAMAR-Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lamar Family Ministries Center for James Muriel “Jim” McManus, 84, Lamar, who died at 12 midnight, Monday, April 14, 2014. Pastor Andrew Boswell and James McManus officiated. Pastor Bob Petersen offered a Prayer of Healing. Burial was in Lake Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.


Memorial contributions may be made to Frances McManus, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Frances McManus; two sons, Gary McManus and wife Suzanne, Coffeyville, Kan. and Larry McManus and wife Kathy, Independence, Kan.; five daughters, Teri Boswell, Lamar, Sheri Clark, Springfield, Traci McManus, Fort Worth, Texas, Jasmine Boston and husband Tim, Kansas City, Mo. and Tiona McManus, Fort Worth, Texas; four brothers, John McManus, Paul McManus, Stephen McManus and David McManus; three sisters, Margaret Cox, Pricillia Wytcherly and Mary Ester McCain and spouses; 10 grandchildren, James, Jason and Jeffrey McManus, Angela Balloun, Heather King, Amy Morrison, Chad McManus, Andrew Boswell, Shawn Clark and Timothy James Boston; 26 great-grandchildren and 171 foster children.


He was preceded in death by a brother, Pat McManus and a sister, Janette McManus.


Mr. McManus was born Nov. 1, 1929, at Great Falls, Montana to James and Lillian McManus. He graduated from East High in Kansas City, Mo. on February 14, 1947. He married Frances Belle Pinkerton on Feb. 14, 1950, in Charlotte, S.C. They received the Missouri Foster Parent Award and also received many accolades within their churches.


Mr. McManus worked for Walmart for 26 years, where he received many recognitions and retired as a manager in 1994. His hobbies were spending time with his family, which he dearly loved, caring for their foster babies and ministering to hundreds of homeless in the Kansas City, Mo. area.
