NEVADA, Mo.- A celebration of life service is tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m., July 4, at the Nevada Seventh-Day Adventist Church, for Loretta May (Pemberton) Somers, 85, Nevada, who died Sunday, May 10, 2020, at Moore Few Care Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz-Warden Funeral Home, Lamar.

Mrs. Somers will be buried beside her late husband on August 16, at 10 a.m., in the Ada, Kan. Cemetery. Bring a dish; a potluck will follow at 4 p.m., at the Ada Community Hall.

Survivors include her children, Jack Leonard Somers II and wife Thais, Lincoln, Neb, Carol Lee (Somers) McMillen and husband Mark, Sturgeon, Robert Floyd Somers and wife Stephanie, Springfield and Steven Somers, Nevada, Mo.; a sister, Bonnie Louise (Pemberton) Schwarck, Miami, Fla; a brother, Deryl Floyd Pemberton and wife Fran, Old Town, Fla.; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann (Somers) Milano.

Mrs. Somers was born in Valentine, Neb. on October 1, 1934, to Elsie May (Stack) Pemberton and Floyd Pemberton. She attended Union College, Lincoln, in 1955 and then later finished her RN degree at Bryan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. She worked at various nursing homes, the State Hospital and lastly at Heartland Hospital before retiring. On September 16, 1956, she married PFC Jack Leonard Somers. He preceded her in death.

She played the role of matriarch for her family after the passing of her mother. Her hobbies included singing hymns, studying the Sabbath School Quarterly, watching movies and scrapbooking. She was an avid researcher of her family’s genealogy.

She led church Christmas programs and VBS and served as church superintendent and church school board member, as well as, lead pianist.
