Positive COVID-19 cases continue

The Barton County Health Department (BCHD) announced Monday, Oct. 12, that a student at Liberal High School had tested positive for COVID-19. Also announced as testing positive on the same day were two students at Lamar High School and one at Lamar Middle School.

On Friday, Oct. 16, the health department announced that another Liberal High School student had tested positive, as well as two more Lamar High School students on the same day.

The health department is working closely with both school districts to identify all close contacts.

Those who are identified as close contacts will be contacted by health department representatives and advised on how to proceed.

To protect the privacy of the individual and their family, the health department will not release individually identifiable details. The individuals are quarantined and being monitored closely by the Barton County Health Department.

As of Friday, Oct. 16, the Barton County Health Department reported the total number of positive cases in Barton County as 349; total recovered, 281; total active cases, 68 and total COVID-19 related deaths, two.
