Five generations of Higgins gathered over Thanksgiving of this year. Pictured left to right are Blake Higgins (father), Mark Higgins (grandfather), 96-year-old Nellie Higgins (great-great-grandmother) holding baby Zander Higgins, seven months old and Lary Higgins (great-grandfather).

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Lamar Elks Lodge No. 2800 recently donated $1,000 to the Famous Missouri Veterans Monument, to be erected at the Barton County Memorial Park, located on the corner of 2nd and Gulf, in Lamar. The monument will recognize veterans that made a significant difference while serving in the armed services. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger A check in the amount of $12,500 from the Arvest Foundation was presented to the Barton County Sheriff’s Department to be used towards the purchase of an aerial drone to be used by local municipal departments, as well as neighboring county sheriff’s offices. The check presentation was held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
