LAMAR- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home for James L. “Jim” Marquis, 81, Lamar, who died peacefully on Saturday, April 17, 2021, after a short illness. Burial will be held at 1 p.m, at Carl Junction Cemetery in Carl Junction.

Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty Lou; three daughters, Sherri Johnston and husband Rick, Webb City, Robin Dunaway and husband Alan, Carl Junction and Shelley McKisick and husband Cliff, Orange Park, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jaime Dunaway-Seale, Tori Dunaway, Keifer McKisick and Seger McKisick; one brother, Jerri Marquis and four sisters, Jean Hiatt, Judy Lapp, Jane Ann Prichard and Joan Chavers.

Mr. Marquis was born Dec. 19, 1939, in Adair, Iowa, to Chris and Frances Marquis. He married Betty Lou Spangler on Feb. 15, 1959, in Adair, Iowa. Later they moved to Costa Mesa, Calif. In 1967 they moved to Lamar, where he worked at Barton County Implement Company for 36 years.

He had a passion for farming and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and loved old classic cars.
