JOE ROE

LAMAR- A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Daniel Funeral Home for Joe Lloyd Roe, who died Dec. 11, 2020, at Cox Hospital in Springfield. Burial will follow the visitation at Lake Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lee; one son, David Roe, Lamar; two grandchildren, Ashley Roberts and husband Gregg and Jeffrey Roe and wife Brandy; one brother, Roy Roe and wife Joyce, Oregon City, Ore.; one sister, Elizabeth Jaeger, Nashville, Tenn. and nine great-grandchildren, Shae Roberts, Brecken Roberts, Trace Roberts, Mason Roe, Marlee Roe, Zyler Leonard, Alaiagha Leonard, Ricky Sewell and Persais Sewell, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, David Dorsey Jr. and Ed Roe; a brother-in-law, Joe Jaeger and a daughter-in-law, Linda Roe.

Mr. Roe was born Sept. 7, 1924, inVersailles, to Dorsey and Alma (James) Roe. He married Betty Lee Griffin on June 14, 1947, in Lamar.

He moved to Lamar and worked at the Lamar Democrat for many years before taking over for his father-in-law, Pat Griffin, as an agent for Banker’s Life Insurance, now known as Principal Life Insurance. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Metro Club.

He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals play ball. He loved his grandkids and great-grandkids and is greatly missed by his family.
