COVID numbers staying steady

According to Barton County Health Department Administrator Joel Dermott, Barton County is “holding its own”, in reference to the recent upsurge of COVID cases.

There have been a number of 10 cases reported in the past week, for a total number of 1098 cases in Barton County, with 12 active and 1070 recovered. Unfortunately, there have been 16 deaths, but this number has remained fairly consistent as of late.

Rawlings Crane & Fabrication has been busy installing the new screen at the Barco Drive-In. This photo from Thursday morning shows both wings in place. The material for the screen will be installed late next week and hopefully, after some tweaking, the Barco will open May 3.

At the April 15 meeting of the Lamar City Council, Lamar resident Rocky McCulloch invited councilmen and the city administrator to take a tour of the pool facilities on Thursday, April 18, as Mason Banes with KC Gunite was going to do a walk through to see what repairs might entail. Several showed up to view the pools, as well as to hear possible solutions. Banes explained that he had to first find out if the damage was structural or plumbing related. Elaine McCulloch noted that hopes are to retain the outdoor lap pool and to redo the indoor pool so that it could serve as a children’s pool following the removal of the enclosure. Banes is to let the McCullochs, as well as the city, know what he would recommend and the cost it would entail.

A total of $3600 was raised at the car and jeep show held Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Lamar Christian Church Parking lot, with proceeds to benefit the new Barco Drive-In screen tower.
