Tradition continues as Carter wins with her mule, Cindy

Claudia Carter (middle) is pictured with her sister, Victoria Carter (left) and her mother, Cherlyn Adams (right) after winning in the class competition at the Missouri State Fair on Friday, Aug. 13. Winners from each class competed on Saturday, Aug. 14, for the Grand Champion Title. Claudia and her mule, Cindy, ended up winning Missouri Grand Champion Draft Mule, with Cindy beating out approximately 25 other competitors to take the top prize.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Barton County Community Foundation featured Vintage Vegas on Saturday evening, April 13, at Thiebaud Auditorium in Lamar. During the festivities, Elaine Davis, left, president of Lamar Community Betterment, was awarded $1M from a private charitable fund, in order to purchase the old Redneck building at 1705 Gulf. The building will be used jointly by the newly formed Lamar YMCA and the Lamar R-1 School. Watch for more information in the April 24 edition of the Democrat. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The First Baptist Church stepped outside of its walls on Sunday morning, as members of the congregation, along with others from the community, gathered at the Wyatt Earp Park in order to worship the Lord. Music sheets were handed out to those attending, with the church’s worship leader Steve Livingston and the Praise Band from the church leading in the music. Dr. Robert Hodson, senior pastor at the church, shared the sermon. According to Ron Sandberg and Ed Patterson, a total of 198 were in attendance on this beautiful day.
