LOCKWOOD- Services will be held Saturday, at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church in Waterloo, Iowa, for Mardelle E. Akin, 103, Lockwood, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, who died Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa.

Visitation will be held Friday at Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo, along with an Eastern Star service.

Survivors include 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Sandra Hoffman, Estherville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Karen Potter and Meredythe Munson; sons, John "Jack" and Robert "Dick" Hoffman; granddaughter, Kim Hudson; great-grandson, Dakota Rolley; sons-in-law, Robert Potter and Eugene "Mike" Hunt and stepsister, Betty Phelps.

Mrs. Akin was born Nov. 4, 1918, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Harold and Vera Crozier Guyer. She was a 1937 graduate of Waterloo West High School. She married John H. Hoffman, Jr. on July 31, 1937. He died Sept. 30, 1967. She later married Frank E. Young on March 30, 1974 and he died Sept. 23, 1974. She then married Paul L. Akin on March 20, 1996 and he died Nov. 4, 1997.

She worked at Smith Jewelry from 1957 to 1959. She was also a secretary at Construction Machinery from 1959 to 1966 and Cedar Falls Savings and Loan from 1966 until her retirement in 1976.

She was a member of the United Brethren Church since 1920 until its closure in 1992. She then became a member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church. She was 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron of Waterloo Chapter #128 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards such as 500 and Canasta and traveling. Her family will remember her for making great chili, bread and Christmas dinners.
