COVID update

December 27, 2021

According to Barton County Health Department Administrator Joel Dermott, “COVID numbers went up the chimney quicker than the smoke from a yule log”, as 33 new cases were reported in the past seven days. Thankfully, there were no additional deaths reported.

Delta remains the dominant variant statewide, but it is only a matter of time until Omicron makes its presence felt. Reports still indicate that although it is highly contagious, it is not nearly as severe as the Delta strain.

Dermott stated, “Our hopes and prayers for the new year are that COVID does not dominate 2022 the way it did 2020 and 2021.

To date there have been 1664 cases of COVID reported in Barton County, with 26 being active, 32 confirmed deaths, eight probable deaths, 1598 recovered and as stated earlier, 33 new cases have been reported in the past seven days.
