NONA JEAN REED

FRONTENAC, Kan.- A graveside service will be held at a later date for Nona Jean Reed, 92, who died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca West, Webb City and Shirley Giacometti and husband Craig, Frontenac, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Reed; five grandchildren, Matthew Ratterree and wife Sherrie, Pamela Marshall, Lacey Duffin and husband Clayton, Gretchen Smith and Kylee Reagan and husband Bryan and many great-grandchildren, Ashley, Hannah and Jordan Ratterree, Braxton Duffin, Abbey and Nathan West, Brandon Harper and Lily and Annabelle Feagan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; sons John and Grant Reed and great-granddaughter Kendra Harper.

Mrs. Reed was born Dec. 5, 1930, in Lamar, Mo., to Henry and Eula Hess. She grew up as an only child. She was close with her parents and grandparents. She was a good student in school and enjoyed learning. She graduated as salutatorian of her class. She wrote many poems and stories, even having some published throughout her lifetime.

She married Joseph Reed on Aug. 23, 1951. They resided in Kansas City for a couple of years before moving back to a farm in Iantha, Mo., where they raised their four children. She worked at BartonCounty State Bank and O’Sullivan Industries for several years. She spent her lifetime as a homemaker and was a hard worker on the farm. She and her husband moved to Frontenac, Kan. in 1974. She always had pretty flowers in the yard and raised a big garden with lots of produce. She was always there for her family. She was known as “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
