2023 Celebration of Life Rally draws large attendance

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The 2023 Celebration of Life Rally was held at the First Baptist Church of Lamar on Sunday, Jan. 22. The event was sponsored by Barton County Right to Life and several speakers, including State Representative Ann Kelley, State Senator Curtis Trent, Katherine Miles from Katie’s House Pregnancy Center and Carol Reavley spoke during the rally.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Barton County Community Foundation featured Vintage Vegas on Saturday evening, April 13, at Thiebaud Auditorium in Lamar. During the festivities, Elaine Davis, left, president of Lamar Community Betterment, was awarded $1M from a private charitable fund, in order to purchase the old Redneck building at 1705 Gulf. The building will be used jointly by the newly formed Lamar YMCA and the Lamar R-1 School. Watch for more information in the April 24 edition of the Democrat. BCCF board member Nancy Curless, right, presented Davis with the check, along with a $5,000 check from the foundation.
