KANSAS CITY, Mo.- A Celebration of Life will be held for Stan Martin Butler, 62, Kansas City, Mo., who died on Thursday, April 30, 2020, once it is deemed safe to travel and hold gatherings in light of COVID-19. In the meantime, his family is requesting to please send any memories or photos to stanbutler.memories@gmail.com.

Survivors include his two children and one grandchild. They plan to take him on a trip to New Zealand as he requested. This trip brings a smile to their faces, an adventure to a place he always wanted to visit and to complete his last big dream.

Mr. Butler was born on April 2, 1958, in Lamar, to the late Clint and Betty Jane Butler. He grew up in the small towns of Lamar and Carthage with three brothers and a sister. He had a strong imagination and big dreams. As a boy he would often ride his bike to the local swimming pool. He was enamored with the likes of sea explorer and conservationist, Jacques Cousteau. This adventurous spirit inspired him to learn how to scuba dive, training in the lakes of the Midwest.

As an avid athlete, he could often be found on the football field or running sprints at track. In 1976, he graduated from Lamar High School and went on to receive a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology (University of Missouri at Rolla) in 1981.

Immediately following graduation, he was recruited and accepted a position with Hallmark Cards, Inc. He began employment in Equipment Engineering and later moved to Machine Design. He was a dedicated worker and a mentor to all during his 32 year career with the company. Mr. Butler was also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers from 1983-2015.

He will be remembered by his passion for unusual and often unique foods and for his wonderful sense of humor. He was a jack of all trades, yet great at them all and was always willing to lend a hand. Most of all he loved to get lost in a good story, whether that was a book, movie, song or just gazing into a starry sky.
