MINDENMINES- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mindenmines Church of God for Lee Allen Williams, 84, Mindenmines, who died at 7:57 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, at his home following a battle with cancer. Burial will follow at Nashville Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the directin of Derfelt Funeral Home in Baxter Springs, Kan.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Survivors include two sisters, Darlene June Pottorff and Linda Higgins, both of Mindenmines; nieces, Cande Hill, Frontenac, Kan. and Laura Bronson, Parsons, Kan.; nephews, Randy Hill, Pittsburg, Kan. and Jason Higgins and John Pottorff, Mindenmines; sister-in-law, Darlene Williams, Parsons, Kan. and several great nieces and nephews and a host of friends and relatives. Also surviving are a great niece, Rachel Miller and her husband Wade Miller and a great great niece Madison Miller and great great nephew Maddox Miller, who had so graciously provided for his care during his illness.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Lloyd Williams; nephews, Cecil Lloyd Williams Jr. and Duane Allen Williams; a great nephew, Jeremy Pelican and a brother-in-law, Robert Pottorff.

Mr. Williams was born Feb. 19, 1936, in Mindenmines, to John Cecil and Agnes (Irwin) Williams.

He resided in Mindenmines most of his life where he attended school as a child. He graduated from Kansas State Teachers College, now known as Pittsburg State University, with his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. He earned his Doctorate from Texas A&M. He received a Linguistics degree from University of Arizona and University of Kansas. He taught schools in Leavenworth, Kan.; Miracle Valley, Ariz.; Goodman and Bronaugh; St. Paul, Kan.; Ohio Central State University, Kansas State University, Missouri Southern State University, Texas A&M and retired from McCauley High School in Joplin. He attended church at the Church of God in Mindenmines his entire life, taking a very active part in the church as song leader and Sunday school teacher.
