JASPER- A graveside service was held for close family and friends of Mary Beth Bastin, 86, Jasper, who died Saturday evening, Nov. 7, 2020, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood.

Arrangements were under the direction of Knell Mortuary in Carthage.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House of Joplin, in care of the mortuary.

Survivors include her two children, Robert Bastin and wife Kathy, Golden City and Robyn McDowell, Carthage; six grandchildren, Carrie Hartigan and husband Joseph, Springfield, Kayla Ayres and husband Randy, Carthage, Michael McDowell and wife Shelby, Oronogo, Matthew McDowell, Kansas City, Mo., Sarah Shepherd and husband Sawyer, Girard, Kan. and Jenny Morgan and husband Jade, Lamar; a niece, Sue Hines and husband Royce, Golden City and five great-grandchildren, Rayna and Jason Ayres, Andrew and Isaac McDowell and Laramie Shepherd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; a sister, Annabelle Baskette; an older brother, Robert F. Seeley and a son-in-law, Bill McDowell.

Mrs. Bastin was born Feb. 22, 1934, to William and Claris Seeley. She was a graduate of Golden City High School, where she met her future husband, Carl Bastin, Jr. They were married and soon after Bastin Farms was established in Jasper. She later gave birth to twins, Robert and Robyn.

Mrs. Bastin was active with their family farm, was a leader and volunteer for the Missouri Farm Bureau and enjoyed promoting farm education to local schools. She was a loving mother and grandmother, master baker and cook, seamstress and excelled in the game of “hearts” with friends. She enjoyed many travels with her husband and sharing her knowledge of the family tree. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage.
