ECS receives CARES Act Funding

December 01, 2020

Missouri Department of Social Services’ Department of Family Services’ Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Unit has been able to release CARES Act funding. Community Action Agencies are unique agencies in their communities, each overseen by a governing board that represents public and private stakeholders and low-income community residents. While each agency may vary in size and scope, they all share a common mission of fighting poverty and promoting self-sufficiency at the community level. Local agencies respond to short-term crises that can topple a working family into poverty, and address chronic conditions that can trap multiple generations in dependency.

ESC’s CSBG funds will be used for the following activities for eligible Southwest Missouri individuals and families who are experiencing difficulties during this Global Pandemic. Here are some of the services that will be available: rental assistance, minor home repairs (less than $1,000), furnace/AC repairs and replacements in conjunction with ESC’s utility assistance and Weatherization services. Employment services include on- the-job training, childcare assistance copays, and transportation associated with working eligible individuals and families. Education tuition assistance, emergency water bill assistance and prescription co-pay assistance. Extended partnerships with Southwest Missouri Boys and Girls Club and Area on Aging services to provide more services to children and seniors during this high time of need.
