ARTHUR “SONNY” SEWELL, JR.

NEVADA, Mo.- Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, Mo. for Arthur Leslie “Sonny” Sewell, Jr., 78, Nevada, Mo., who died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his wife and loved ones. Burial was in Sheldon Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife Linda of 49 years; six sons, Tim Sewell and wife Cherri, South Pointe, Ohio, Robert Sewell and wife Melinda, Sheldon, Richard Sewell and wife Brenda, Lamar, Randall Sewell and wife Debby, Harrisonville, Michael Sewell and wife Chasity, Harrisonville and Wes Sewell and wife Marlena, Richmond, Ind.; two daughters, Cindy Sewell, Nevada, Mo. and Donna Dee Sewell Welch and husband David, Strawberry Plains, Tenn.; two brothers, Kenneth Sewell and wife Debbie and Robert Sewell and wife Twila, both of Nevada, Mo.; two sisters, Carol Strickland, Osceola and Linda Chestnut and husband Leon, Nevada, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur, Sr. and Pauline Sewell; a brother, Danny Sewell; two nephews, Wesley Strickland and Travis Sewell and five nieces, Tommie Lear, Rachel Costley, Leonette Hammontree, Teresa Spencer and Lisa Strickland.

Mr. Sewell was born Aug. 28, 1942, in Nevada, Mo. He worked at Anaconda Wire and Cable and General Motors in Kansas City, Mo. In 2003 he and his wife moved into his home place, where his father and mother had opened a bait shop in 1975. He operated the bait shop for 17 years. Besides running the bait shop he enjoyed family dinners, holidays, bowling, fishing and hunting.

He was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer in November of 2018.
