LAMAR- A Celebration of Life will be observed at a later date for Betty Ann (Massie) Tipton, 90, who died Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage, following a short illness.

She will be cremated, with her ashes being buried next to her husband of 63 years, Clarence, at Memory Garden Cemetery in Lamar.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to Lamar Senior Citizen Center or Lamar United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include a son, Robert and wife Debbie, Stotts City; a daughter, Tracy Rogers and husband Steve, Rocky Comfort; six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Tipton was born March 6, 1930, in rural Ellington, to Claude and May (Larkin) Massie.

She later moved to Salem and her freshman year in high school found her living in Malden, graduating in 1948. After high school she moved to St. Louis and attended Miss Hickey’s Secretarial School. Upon graduation she was employed by Ralston Purina. She later met and married Clarence Tipton in August 1952.

The family moved to Lamar in 1963 and ran Tipton's Superette Grocery Store for many years. She was the secretary at the Lamar United Methodist Church for eight years. In 1972, she went to work as a teller for the Barton County Bank until her retirement. She and her husband lived on a farm near Golden City, from 1975 until 2000, later moving back to Lamar. She loved the Lord and her family. She enjoyed traveling, reading, quilting and crocheting in her spare time. She was well known for always thinking of others, sending cards and baked goods to her friends and neighbors.
