REBA FAE SIMMONS

LAMAR- Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Konantz Warden Funeral Home, for Reba Fae Simmons, 91, Lamar, who died Saturday, May 1, 2021, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage. A visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 12 noon.

Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Cancer Society or Nigh Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Calvin Simmons and wife Debra, Lamar; a daughter, Jan Rogers, Raleigh, NC; a sister, Sarah White, Texas; a sister-in-law, Wanda Michel, Grandview; grandsons, Joshua, Phillip and Tyler; three great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; an infant son, Gerald; five sisters, Madelene Phipps, Olive Pyatt, Mary Williams, Alma Reaves and Wanda Jones and one brother, Curtis “Jack” Jones.

Mrs. Simmons was born Aug. 6, 1929, in Dade County, to Claude and Opal (Palmer) Jones. She was a 1947 graduate of Lamar High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Simmons, on August 1, 1948 and they were together for 64 years. They were lifelong residents of Barton County.

She was a community leader of 4-H from 1958 to 1975 and she was known for her large garden and canning marathons. She was an avid sewer and quilter. She also had a love of fishing and cutting wood.

She was a faithful member of Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she served as clerk of the session for many years. She was active in CPW and taught various Sunday school classes for 20 years.
