Shorty Godfrey receives proclamation for reaching 100 years

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Shorty Godfrey observed her 100th birthday on Thursday, Jan. 21, at her home in Lamar. On Monday, May 10, a proclamation was presented to her by the Barton County Commission as Commissioners Mike Davis and Ben Reed joined Shorty’s son, Gordie, to present her with this unique honor. Shorty, sitting, is pictured with, left to right, Presiding Commissioner Mike Davis, Gordie Godfrey and District One Commissioner Ben Reed.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Lamar Elks Lodge No. 2800 recently donated $1,000 to the Famous Missouri Veterans Monument, to be erected at the Barton County Memorial Park, located on the corner of 2nd and Gulf, in Lamar. The monument will recognize veterans that made a significant difference while serving in the armed services. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger A total of $3600 was raised at the car and jeep show held Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Lamar Christian Church Parking lot, with proceeds to benefit the new Barco Drive-In screen tower. Pictured are, left to right, Lamar Bank & Trust President Pat O’Neal, Barco Drive-In Theatre fundraiser director Landin Myers and representing the Plaza/Barco and Lamar Community Betterment, Scott Kelley. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at the bank, or drop it by the Plaza Theatre on the south side of the square.
