LAMAR- A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, at Daniel Funeral Home for Steven Charles Standley, 62, Lamar, who died Friday, Aug. 27, 2021, at 2:22 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Standley; his daughter, Stefanie Standley; his parents, Charles and Carol Standley; his brother, Shawn Standley and wife Jolene; his sister, Suzanne Cato and husband David and nieces, Lakin Standley, Kinder Standley and Shelby Davey and husband Luke and a nephew, Drew Cato and fiance Kayla.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Penny Lee Standley.

Mr. Standley was born Oct. 25, 1958, in Kansas City, Mo., to Charles Kinder and Carol Sue (Orrell) Standley. He was a 1977 graduate of Lamar High School. He was an all-around athlete, whether it be playing running back on the football team, running track or holding the record in pole vaulting. He attended Pittsburg State University on a football scholarship and ran for the track team while he was at the university. On July 3, 1982, he married Christine Joanne Matthews in Lamar.

Mr. Standley was self-employed and started his career in construction. While continuing construction he also started numerous companies supporting environmental endeavors through his milling and recycling work. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting, bass fishing, water skiing and was a boating and car enthusiasts. He enjoyed traveling to the beach and staying close to home with family and friends around the backyard pool. He loved animals, especially his beloved dogs, whom you would often see him walking or taking for a ride in the golf cart. When his daughter was younger, you would always find him on the softball field coaching and watching her play. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He would do anything for anybody and he had an amazing sense of humor and love for all those who knew him.
