BIG TIMBER, Montana- Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, at Shiloh Cemetery in Liberal, Mo., for Nathaniel Scott Brooks, 35, Big Timber, who died Friday, Sept. 10, 2021.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, Mo.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to ECHCS (Veterans Affairs Eastern Colorado Health Care System) or to Lamar Bank and Trust (where a fund has been set up for his son, Israel) in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include a son, Israel Brooks, Peru; his parents, Rob and Tammy Brooks; two brothers, Trampas and wife Leisa, Mt. Vernon, Mo. and Ryan Brooks, Miami, Fla.; three nieces; one nephew; one great-nephew; two great-nieces and several uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Elmer and Shorty Bailey; his parents grandparents, Doc and Wuanita Brooks and two aunts.

Mr. Brooks was born May 28, 1986, in Joplin, Mo., to Rob and Tammy Lynn (Bailey) Brooks. He served in the United States Army 10th Mountain Division for four years and was a cook for a high end restaurant before his passing. He was a member of the Military Order of Purple Heart and the VFW.

The Barton County Library kicked off their summer reading program at the Mary K. Finley Library in Lamar on Thursday morning, May 29, with children's musician Dino O'Dell. Shown in the picture are kids who followed him as he taught them movements to go with his songs, while teaching them about the seven continents, five oceans and what's special about each part of our world. There were almost 100 in attendance. The program at the library was O’Dell’s second of the morning, after offering a presentation to students in first through fifth grades at Lamar’s summer school. As usual, this project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

At a recent home game second baseman Cooper Haun goes back on pop-up while fellow senior Eli Hull sprints in from right field. The Tigers dropped a hard-fought sectional battle with Clever Wednesday at Monett to complete their season.

Here, Liberal High School sophomore Ally Barton heads for the finish line. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Lamar Police Officer Dakota Heller was sworn in by City Clerk Felicia Costley prior to the May 27 city council meeting. His badge was pinned on him by his mother, Amy Heller. Officer Heller began his duties with Lamar following graduation from the MSSU Police Academy on May 9. He had previously worked at the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department as a corrections officer.
