GOLDEN CITY- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Golden City for Norman Wayne Parker, 89, Golden City, who died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehabilitation in Lockwood. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the Lockwood VFW, IOOF Cemetery or the "Good Endings Room" at Good Shepherd Community Care, in care the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; two daughters, Brenda Kay Stalker and husband Alan, Golden City and Lori Beth Gibson and husband Jody, Wyandotte, Okla.; two grandchildren, Courtney Davis and husband Ryan and Haileigh Heath and husband Landon, all of Ozark; four great-grandchildren, Aidan, Tucker and Sawyer Davis and Hudson Heath and babygirl Heath due in January; five brothers, Stanley Parker and wife Henrietta, Golden City, John "J.C." Parker and wife Margie, Republic, Jim Parker and wife Lois, Lockwood and Jerre Parker and wife Maureen and Bob Bitney and wife Anh, all of Houston, Texas; one sister, Janice Kasper, Harrisonville and three sister-in-laws, Betty Parker, Bonnie Parker and Ann Parker, as well as a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmom, Irene Parker; three brothers, Alden Parker, Melvin Parker and Rex Parker; three sisters, Loretta Gardner, Reba Oberman and Lynda Cearnal and four brother-in-laws, Guy Gardner, Ron Oberman, Bob Cearnal and Ralph Kasper.

Mr. Parker was born July 10, 1932, in Jasper County, to Earl Calvin Parker and Ihlah Ruth (John) Parker. He was a 1951 graduate of Golden City High School. He married Eula “Marlene” Hostetter on May 16, 1955, in Miami, Okla.

He worked as a farmer which included crops, cattle and hogs. He was a salesman for Vigertone Seed, he was a member of the First Christian Church in Golden City, Lockwood VFW, American Legion, Golden City School Board, Fire Board, Good Shepherd Board, PCA Board, Federal Land Bank, MFA Board and was a board member of Dade County Soil & Water District.

He enjoyed snow skiing and always had a good time hunting pheasants in Kansas with family. He loved attending the sporting events at Golden City schools and received the community athletic supporter award in 2016-17. His family was dear to him and he enjoyed attending the many athletic events and activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
