LAMAR- The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, Saturday, at Konantz Warden Funeral Home, for Shirley Mae Cheek, 78, Lamar, who died Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at her home. A procession will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, where a graveside service will be held at around 12:30 p.m.

The family would appreciate donations in lieu of flowers being made to assist with the funeral expenses.

Survivors include her daughters, Diana Underwood and husband Ray, Locust Grove, Ark. and Denise Kimmons and fiance Anthony Holloway, Lamar; grandchildren, Anthony Cheek, Stefanie Underwood, Dallas Underwood, William Ray Underwood, Wesley Cheek, Nick Kimmons, Skyler Kimmons, Coleen Cheek, Rebecca Cheek and Kayla Cheek; 13 great grandchildren; her siblings, Roberta Franklin and husband Wayne, Linda Martin, Beverly Chandler, Norma Mitchell, Sue Gerleman and Becky Berry and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Marshall Cheek Sr.; a son, William Marshall “Billy” Cheek Jr. and siblings, Louise Muncy, Kenneth Berry and Denzil Berry.

Mrs. Cheek was born Jan. 20, 1943, in Jerico Springs, to Lawrence and Fernita (Evans) Berry. She attended Sylvania School and then Lockwood High School. She started work at the Sunset Cafe and worked there until she married her husband and moved with him to California, where he was stationed.

After military service ended they returned to Lockwood and raised their family. Mrs. Cheek worked several places including Evans Supermarket, Pump-n-Pay and O’Sullivan Industries. She was a wonderful cook. She cooked so many amazing meals and was especially known for her blueberry sky and her raisin pies. She was a devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother whose entire life revolved around her family.
