Makinley Miller, daughter of Kaleb and Jessica Miller, is the sixth grade Lamar Middle School Student of the Week. Makinley enjoys training dogs and participating in Girl Scouts. Her favorite subject in school is Science and she also has a dog named Sonja.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The graduating seniors from Golden City High School all sat in the front row of the gymnasium as they participated in commencement exercises on Saturday, May 14. The yellow carnations they are holding will be presented by the graduating class to various members in the audience as a means of showing their appreciation. Following the presentation of the class and their diplomas, the students signified their graduation status by switching their tassels to the other side of their mortarboard. Golden City High School graduation 2022
Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger It was an extremely emotional graduation Friday evening as Sheldon High School celebrated their 2022 commencement. Many factors played part in making the evening a memorable one. Here, graduating students stand as Leah Byram gives the invocation to start off the ceremonies. Noted throughout the evening was the remembrance of Hannah Lamb, who attended her ultimate graduation six years ago due to injuries in a vehicle accident. This would have been her graduating class. Lamar Democrat/Chris Morrow Lamar hosted the Class 3 District 6 track and field meet Saturday and the Tigers and Lady Tigers had a number of athletes turn in strong performances. Here Blaine Bresheares leads the pack in the 800 meter run. Also pictured for Lamar is Pierce Heins. Bresheares finished third and Heins came in eighth.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The tire collection event that Region M Waste Management partnered on with the City of Lamar was held Saturday, May 14, and it is apparent that the collection was a great success. The tires that were collected will be shredded and have the metal threads removed. The rubber will then be combined with other materials to be made into composite lumber for picnic tables and benches. Recycling services were provided by Champlain Tire Recycling. Citizens of the community are very appreciative of the recent opportunities provided by the city in order to help clean up the town.
Tire collection event proves to be great success
Lamar Democrat/Chris Morrow Jasper's Livia Dumm squares up the ball during last week's district tournament. The Lady Eagles defeated Liberal 15-3 to take the title. They defeated Northeast Vernon County 12-2 in the semifinal. They were set to play Miller in the quarterfinal Tuesday.
