MINDENMINES- A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mindenmines Christian Church for Wallace F. Smith, 91, Mindenmines, who died peacefully at 11:38 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022, at his residence. Rev. Dan Moss will officiate. Private burial of cremains will be held at a later date at the Nashville Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg, Kan.

The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Mindenmines Christian Church and may be left at or sent to Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Smith and wife Sondra and Kevin Smith and wife Nancy, all of Mindenmines; one daughter, Joan Cantrell and husband Clint, Mindenmines; one daughter-in-law, Sally Smith, Carl Junction; one brother, Ralph Smith and wife Dolly, Liberal; two sisters, Louise Ellis, Grove, Okla. and Eva Umphenour and husband Kenny, Afton, Okla.; nine grandchildren, Melissa Hart, Garrett Smith, Amanda Janssen, Kim Barnhart, Steve Smith, Heather Smith, Thomas Smith, Beth Cantrell and Callista Smith and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Ethan and Ezra Hart.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie and a son, Jerry Smith.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 15, 1930, at rural Mindenmines, to Louis H. and Agnes (Rummel) Smith. He married Margie Stevens on Sept. 16, 1952, at the Nashville Christian Church in Nashville, Mo. Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2021.

He was a lifetime farmer and also was a coal miner for P&M Coal Company.

Membership was held in the Mindenmines Christian Church.
