CARROLL DEAN SANDERS

MT. VERNON- Carroll Dean Sanders, 64, Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, following a short illness with cancer.

Survivors include a son, Carroll Dean Sanders Jr.; two sisters, Carolyn Wilson, Lamar and Shirley Gibbons, Indiana and one brother, John Sanders, Webb City.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; one sister, Roselee Westbey and five brothers, Louis Howard Sanders Jr., Thomas Andrew Sanders, David Ross Sanders, James Dewey Sanders and Billy Joe Sanders.

Mr. Sanders was born June 15, 1959, in Lamar, to Howard and Maxine Sanders. He lived in Golden City and Lamar for most of is life. He was a farmer for over 20 years, milking cows and looking after the farm where he worked.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Barton County Community Foundation featured Vintage Vegas on Saturday evening, April 13, at Thiebaud Auditorium in Lamar. During the festivities, Elaine Davis, left, president of Lamar Community Betterment, was awarded $1M from a private charitable fund, in order to purchase the old Redneck building at 1705 Gulf. The building will be used jointly by the newly formed Lamar YMCA and the Lamar R-1 School. Watch for more information in the April 24 edition of the Democrat. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The First Baptist Church stepped outside of its walls on Sunday morning, as members of the congregation, along with others from the community, gathered at the Wyatt Earp Park in order to worship the Lord. Music sheets were handed out to those attending, with the church’s worship leader Steve Livingston and the Praise Band from the church leading in the music. Dr. Robert Hodson, senior pastor at the church, shared the sermon. According to Ron Sandberg and Ed Patterson, a total of 198 were in attendance on this beautiful day.
