LIBERAL- Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Verdella Free Will Baptist Church in Liberal for Bill Carpenter, 79, Liberal, who died Monday, May 1, 2023.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the Verdella Free Will Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; three sons, Darren Carpenter and wife Tracey, Colorado Springs, Colo., Brian Carpenter and wife Laura, Nevada, Mo. and Kevin Carpenter and wife Jennifer, Peculiar; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leota McClendon and Wanda June Dunn, both of Ft. Scott, Kan., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Carpenter was born Aug. 8, 1943, in Oskaloosa, to Willie Albert and Carrie Evelyn (Guss) Carpenter. He was a 1961 graduate of Liberal High School. He married Karen Ann Bell on Nov. 24, 1965, in Liberal.

He worked as a coal miner for Peabody Coal in Montrose and also as a forklift operator for O’Sullivan Industries in Lamar for 13 years. He was a member of the Mine Worker's Association (MWA). He loved watching the Kansas City Royals and having the boys home for deer camp.
