The Lamar High School Class of 2023 held its commencement exercises at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 21. It was a beautiful day for family and friends to enjoy the ceremony that was held outdoors at the Thomas M. O’Sullivan Stadium. Graduates entered the field from the east as they made way to their respective seats. Many had their mortarboards decorated as a form of expression, or telling others where they planned to attend college. The salutatorian address was presented by Veronica Ogden, with Andrew Shelton giving the valedictorian address. Entertainment was provided by the high school band, along with a solo from senior Emma Aborn and the singing of the LHS Alma Mater, led by class officers. Members of the Lamar R-1 School Board, along with LHS Principal Jennifer Beem, presented the diplomas to graduates as Superintendent Dr. Zach Harris announced their names. The junior class provided a single flower that was handed out to each senior as they exited the stage.
