Memorial Park makes stunning backdrop for Memorial Day service

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Members of the VFW Post 3691 were on hand to provide a moving Memorial Day service that was held Monday morning, May 29, at the Barton County Memorial Park in Lamar. VFW Post Commander Matt Pettibon started off by explaining the history of the Memorial Day service and noted that the day was to honor those who had died for their country in order to protect freedoms that so many take for granted. The park was a splendid setting with plenty of shade for spectators, as well as offering a backdrop of the war memorials and nurse’s pavilion. Many took the opportunity before and after the ceremony to view what the park has to offer.

The material for the screen will be installed late next week and hopefully, after some tweaking, the Barco will open May 3.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger At the April 15 meeting of the Lamar City Council, Lamar resident Rocky McCulloch invited councilmen and the city administrator to take a tour of the pool facilities on Thursday, April 18, as Mason Banes with KC Gunite was going to do a walk through to see what repairs might entail. Several showed up to view the pools, as well as to hear possible solutions. Banes explained that he had to first find out if the damage was structural or plumbing related. Elaine McCulloch noted that hopes are to retain the outdoor lap pool and to redo the indoor pool so that it could serve as a children’s pool following the removal of the enclosure. Banes is to let the McCullochs, as well as the city, know what he would recommend and the cost it would entail.
