JACK COMPTON
LAMAR- A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, at the First Christian Church for Jack Arnold Compton, 92, Lamar, who died Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Cox Barton County Hospital. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery, Nashville, Mo.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kan.
Survivors include two daughters, Rachele Lord and Denise James and husband Will; four granddaughters, Elise, Clarise, Cora and Veronica James and two brothers, Carl and Gene Compton.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Don Compton.
Mr. Compton was born July 4, 1930, in Springfield, to Vernon Compton and Elizabeth Fuhr Compton.
Following high school he joined the United States Army. Upon returning home he married Edith Hines on June 9, 1956, in Summerfield. She preceded him in death June 16, 1992.
Mr. Compton spent his life as a farmer in the Lamar area. He was a proud member of the 1st Christian Church, serving many offices and boards.
He was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish. He taught his daughters to hunt and fish. He enjoyed hearing his granddaughters’ stories of their deer hunts. He had many hobbies throughout the years such as tying flies, photography, beekeeping, woodworking and making key chains. He was always sharing his handy works with family and friends and loved to tell them stories.
