LOCKWOOD- The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Greenfield Funeral Chapel, 61 N. Allison, for Franklin Dee Heiskell, 91, Lockwood, who died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at his home.

Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m., at Lockwood Cemetery, County Rd. 142.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lockwood American Legion Post #372 Roy E. Carr.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Eric Hathway, Pleasant View, Tenn.; son, Mike Heiskell, Lockwood; daughter, Tracy Reagan, Oronogo; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Morgan Stringfield, Aiken, S.C.; 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Kincer and husband John, Joshua

Harrell and wife Angela, Kelly Heiskell and Tyler Dunn, Ryan Heiskell and wife Elizabeth, Cole Heiskell and wife Mallory, Nathan Reagan and wife Anna, Zachery Reagan, Logan Stringfield and wife Emily, Olivia Stringfield and Luke Stringfield; 11 great grandchildren and a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Helen Heiskell, Neosho.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances (Burt); three brothers, Vernon Heiskell, Eldon Heiskell, and Norman Heiskell and three sisters, Betty Woods, Mary Orrell and Doris Daniels.

Mr. Heiskell was born July 1, 1932 in Lockwood, to Harold Winn and Oma Viola (Coble) Heiskell. He was a 1951 graduate of Lockwood High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Frank Knox from 1952 to 1956.

He married Frances Burt on July 21, 1956 and they were married 67 years until her passing on Sept. 7, 2023. In 1967 they moved from Carthage to their farm in the Lockwood area and raised four children, Sherry, Mike, Tracy and Leslie.

Mr. Heiskell was well-known in the community for raising watermelons and cantaloupe for many years. In addition to farming he served as a member of the Lockwood School Board and was also an elected Dade County commissioner for 13 years. He enjoyed sports and had a love of fishing that he was able to enjoy with his brothers, son and grandsons. He enjoyed spending time with his 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was also a deacon and member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
