PENELOPE SMITH

LIBERAL- A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar for Penelope “Penny” Grace Porter Smith, 72, Liberal, who died Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Survivors include a sister, Coleen Kauble and husband Don, Lincoln; two brothers, Lee Porter and wife Sandy, Liberal and Charles Porter and wife Betty, Arma, Kan.; many nieces and nephews and special friends, James and Athene Sherman, who provided for her care.

She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers, Paul Porter and James Porter and his wife Leta Porter.

Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 11, 1951, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Armond Monroe Porter and Cora May “Betty” Porter. She was a graduate of Liberal High School. She worked as a CNA in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. She loved cats.

She married Ed Smith on March 30, 1981. He died June 14, 1985.
