JASPER- Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, for Shirley Agnes Kruger, 88, Jasper, who died Friday, April 5, 2024, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage.

The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the Crippled Children’s Fund or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Eddie and wife Deb, Ashland, Neb. and Marlon Eddie and wife Dianna, Jasper; one daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Meier and husband Al, Lincoln, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and five stepchildren, Cathy, Bruce, Cindy, Greg and Carla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddy Kruger; one brother, Edward Backer and five sisters, Arlene Tilton, Marie Allen, Dorothy Haselhorst, Vernelle Miner and Joan Synovec.

Mrs. Kruger was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Randolph, Neb., to Anthony H Backer and Helen E (Kelsch) Backer. She married Robert P. Eddie on Jan. 19, 1953, in Randolph, Neb. Three children were born to the marriage and they later divorced. She then married Eddy Kruger on June 12, 2004, in Randolph, Neb., who preceded her in death.

She was a devoted farm wife and worked as a caretaker at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital in Carthage and was voted Volunteer of the Year. Her greatest joy was being able to help others.
