RURAL MINDENMINES- A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at the Christian Church of Liberal, for Jimmie A. Martin, 72, rural Mindenmines, who died Monday, July 29, 2024, at his home. Pastor Brayden Morrison will officiate.

A visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Bath Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg, Kan.

Flowers may be sent to the church for the services, or memorial donations to the church are also appreciated.

Survivors include his wife, Candace; two daughters, Niki Bishir and husband Andy, Pittsburg, Kan. and Jenny Worrall and husband Jason, Carthage; two sons, Nathan Martin and wife Paige, Fulton and Josey Martin, Liberal; seven grandchildren, Drew, Brad and wife Marissa, Cam, Kaileigh, Libbie, Hunter and Roman, as well as three great-granddaughters, Penelope, Eleanora and Adelaide. Other survivors include a brother, Ed Martin and wife Terry, Pittsburg, Kan., three sisters, Jeannie Martin, Jefferson City, Heidi Lanz and husband Greg, Liberal and Joni Martin, Iantha and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Timmie and a sister, Judy Martin.

Mr. Martin was born January 8, 1952, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Ralph Gilbert and Helen (Alcorn) Martin. He married Candace Innes on Dec. 30, 1977, in Ft. Scott, Kan. He always said that his wife, Candace, was the best thing that ever happened to him and that she saved his life. Their love and devotion was an example for many.

Hunting, fishing, gardening, watching westerns, looking for morel mushrooms, rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals and doting on his dog Yadi were his favorite pastimes. He also loved studying his Bible and talking about Jesus to anyone and everyone.

Mr. Martin was a mechanic and truck driver. He drove for Bowlus School Supply and American Concrete. He also worked for numerous neighboring farmers.

He was an active member of the Christian Church of Liberal and enjoyed giving memorable communion meditations on Sunday mornings. He was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous and recently received his 30 year chip for sobriety.
