LAMAR- A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Memory Garden Cemetery for Norma Sue Buchanan, 86, Lamar, who died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, at Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lamar High School Class of 1957, in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Buchanan, Lamar; her grandchildren, Jeremy Buchanan, Baton Rouge, LA, Aimee Rabb, Zachary, LA, Jordan Thibodeaux, Lamar and Katelyn Buchanan, Liberty, as well as her great-grandchildren, Brendan, Michael, Conner, Payton, Carter, Jordan and Jaxon. She is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck; her brother, Carol Davis; her son, Timothy Buchanan; her grandson, Kylan Oxendine and her dear friend and traveling companion, Jule Fryer.
Mrs. Buchanan was born in Lurton, Ark. to Glover and Geneva (Dollar) Davis. She was a 1957 graduate of Lamar High School. She married Stanley “Buck” Buchanan on Oct. 26, 1957.
She dedicated her life to raising her children and nurturing her family. For several years she and her husband traveled across the country, working together, splicing cable for telephone systems. She was well-known for her spirited enthusiasm, particularly as an avid bowler and a beloved host of her famous Gumbo Parties. She was a devoted alumna who took great joy in planning and attending class reunions and she found pleasure in crocheting, especially making dishcloths.
Mrs. Buchanan cherished her friendships, often gathering with her lifelong girlfriends for adult slumber parties and her love for travel was unwavering.
